How televisits work

In an effort to continue to provide you with the care you need safely, we offer televisits. This is a videoconference visit through the patient portal. To schedule a televisit, schedule an appointment as you normally would through the portal or healow app. When scheduling on the portal, In the Visit Type selection box, choose televisit. When scheduling in Healow, type in Televisit in the reason for your visit. You will be able to access the televisit from a link in the email, through the patient portal on your computer or through the healow app on your smart phone or tablet.

FAQs

Will my insurance pay for this?

Many insurances including Medicare, Medicaid, United and BCBS continue to pay for televisits. Your co-pay will be the same as a routine office visit.

My computer says it’s unsupported?

In the portal’s televisit system compatibility check, sometimes it says your device is unsupported, even after successfully getting through the compatibility check. Here are a few things to check:

  1. If you are on a Windows computer, sometimes you will get this message if you are using Mozilla Firefox browser. Change to using Google Chrome browser to login to the portal and start your televisit.

  2. If you are on a Windows computer, sometimes this is due to your Java runtime software being out-of-date. Download the latest Java software here, and then reboot your computer and try again.

  3. Change to using the Healow app on your phone.

What kinds of medical issues work well with televisits?

Televisits can work well for chronic condition follow-up visits including hypertension, diabetes, asthma, mental health, COPD, heart disease and others. It is also a great starting point if you feel ill with a cough or a fever and are not sure if you need further testing or an in-person visit.

What if I need lab work?

We can bring you in separately for lab work after evaluation in the televisit. Also, if you message your physician with your issue, they can decide whether you need to come in or do a televisit.

Please be patient. Frequently our physicians have consecutive patient visits and they might be running late. If you have waited for more than 15 minutes, send a portal message or you could email info@trilliumfamilymedicine.com and confirm this is the case.
